R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Deputy Constable John David Garcia of Magnolia sustained an immeasurable loss with the untimely passing of this beloved man on July 17, 2003, at the age of 33; and WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia, who died in the line of duty, was a natural born law officer; his passion for the work was confirmed when he had the opportunity to accompany his brother-in-law Craig Darlow, a member of the Harris County Sheriff's Department, on ride-alongs; a civilian at the time, Mr. Garcia would finish his job for the day and then join Mr. Darlow on his shift, where he witnessed firsthand the hazards and rewards of the law enforcement profession; and WHEREAS, Following his graduation from the University of Houston Police Academy, Mr. Garcia spent two years with the constable's office in Montgomery County Precinct 2; for the past four years, he had been a highly valued member of the constable's staff in Precinct 5; and WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia belonged to a large, affectionate, and close-knit family and drew much of his strength from its warmth and vitality; his life was also enriched by many close friends and sustained by a profound and abiding faith; and WHEREAS, All who knew David Garcia were impressed by his professional expertise, his cheerful nature, and his eagerness to render help whenever and wherever he could; the deep devotion and respect felt for this officer was manifested at the service held for him at First Baptist Church of Magnolia, when a host of individuals gathered to celebrate his memory; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan touched the lives of countless people through the greatness of his heart, and his life will be forever cherished by those who were privileged to share his love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay special tribute to the life of Montgomery County deputy constable John David Garcia and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Shannon Garcia; to his daughter, Patricia Liane Garcia; to his mother, Gloria Cordova; to his father and stepmother, Eusebio and Janise Garcia; to his sisters, Angela Rene Garcia, Katherine Marie Garcia, and Patricia Vera and her husband, Oscar; to his brother, Michael Christopher Garcia; to his grandparents, John and Lela Caballero; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John David Garcia.
