H.R. No. 170


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Throughout the history of this nation, in times of great peril, men and women of the United States military have marched bravely into battle to defend our precious liberties; and WHEREAS, First Lieutenant Jonathan David Rozier embarked from Fort Riley in support of our nation's campaign to liberate Iraqi citizens from oppression; commanding the 2nd Platoon, Bravo Company, 2-70 Armor, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, he was killed in action on July 19, 2003, when his unit came under enemy attack while guarding a municipal building in Baghdad; and WHEREAS, The beloved husband of Jessica Desiree Rozier and devoted father to their son, Justin, this courageous soldier was born in Dallas on July 16, 1978; after being home-schooled through high school, he attended Texas A&M University, where he joined the prestigious Corps of Cadets, and graduated in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in economics; and WHEREAS, Commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army on December 15, 2001, and promoted to first lieutenant on June 15, 2003, Lieutenant Rozier earned the Bronze Star for Valor in the Battle of Al Hillah, one of only 15 soldiers to receive that honor during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and he will receive the Purple Heart posthumously; and WHEREAS, Unflinching bravery and a resolute commitment to fulfill his oath to serve, regardless of the personal consequences, were demonstrated by this valorous American, who gave his life to preserve liberty; the State of Texas and the nation now mourn the loss of Jonathan Rozier: a soldier for a brief period, a hero forever; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay special tribute to the life of First Lieutenant Jonathan Rozier and extend deepest sympathies to the members of his family: to his wife, Jessica; to his son, Justin; to his parents, David and Barbara Rozier; to his sister, Elizabeth Rozier; to his brothers, Benjamin and Joshua Rozier; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of First Lieutenant Jonathan David Rozier.
