H.R. No. 171
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Frank Curre, Jr., of Waco is celebrating his 80th
birthday on August 10, 2003, and this occasion will be commemorated
with a special surprise party, hosted by the many friends,
relatives, and admirers of this distinguished Texan; and
WHEREAS, Born in 1923, Mr. Curre answered his country's call
to duty at the dawn of World War II; he was stationed on the USS
Tennessee in Pearl Harbor on the fateful morning of December 7,
1941, and suffered burns during the Japanese raid on Battleship
Row; in the months that followed, he was transferred to serve aboard
the USS Petrof Bay, an aircraft carrier that played an instrumental
role in the American victory in the Pacific theater, and he shared
in the presidential unit citation that recognized the crew's
extraordinary heroism in combat; and
WHEREAS, On his return to civilian life, Mr. Curre was
married to his sweetheart, the former Alma Louise Head, at a
ceremony held on June 23, 1945; over the course of the next five
decades, the couple worked hard to create a happy home life for
their family, and together they enjoyed a strong partnership that
grew in love and mutual respect with each passing day; and
WHEREAS, An active member of the Waco community, he is the
current president of the Chapter 10 Pearl Harbor Survivors
Association; he visits local schools and colleges to share his
firsthand account of the attack on Pearl Harbor, thereby helping
young Texans to remember the human toll taken by that devastating
war; and
WHEREAS, An inspiration to all those who have the pleasure of
knowing him, Mr. Curre is an outstanding patriot, noteworthy
community leader, and beloved father whose many accomplishments are
deserving of our most heartfelt praise and commendation; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Frank Curre,
Jr., on the occasion of his 80th birthday and extend to him best
wishes for continued happiness and success in all his endeavors;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Curre as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
