R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Nancy Urban Brosig were
deeply saddened by her passing on June 20, 2003, at the age of 61;
and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Brosig was born a first generation descendant
of Russian and Czech immigrants on December 6, 1941, at the family
farm in Lowake; she graduated from Miles High School and attended
San Angelo Junior College; and
WHEREAS, In 1961, she married Joe Carver Brosig II, and their
union was blessed with a loving and supportive family; working
closely together, the couple owned and operated the Chaparral Ranch
in Concho County for 39 years and the Chaparral Ranch Bed and
Breakfast for more than 12 years; and
WHEREAS, In addition to being a successful businesswoman,
Mrs. Brosig was an avid bird-watcher, naturalist, and sheep
rancher; a longtime member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers
Association, she became one of the first women directors of the
organization in 1982; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Brosig actively participated in local
politics, serving as a Republican Party County Chairperson and an
election official for 20 years; she was also involved in her
community through the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Concho County
Hospital; and
WHEREAS, A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and
a highly respected member of her community, Mrs. Brosig positively
influenced the lives of her fellow Texans in many lasting ways, and
her memory will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Nancy Urban Brosig and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her
family: to her husband, Joe Carver Brosig; to her daughters, Renee
Farmer and Leah Brosig Walston; to her sons-in-law, Tom Farmer, Don
Walston, and Duane Schniers; to her grandchildren, Justin, Corey,
and Marina Farmer, and Joseph, Austin, and Lorie Kaye Schniers; to
her siblings, Bessie Arthur, Pauline and Bill Dusek, Edwin Urban,
James Urban, Henry and Laura Urban, and William and Stella Urban;
and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Nancy
Brosig.
