R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With the untimely death of Donna Sue Fowler of
Fluvanna on July 14, 2003, at the age of 59, the citizens of Scurry
County lost a valued community leader and friend; and
WHEREAS, A native of Oakland, California, where she was born
on July 9, 1944, she was a graduate of Snyder High School and an
enthusiastic booster of Snyder and Scurry County; and
WHEREAS, The former Donna Sue Shearer exchanged wedding vows
with Joe Fowler on August 26, 1962, in Gainesville, and their life
together was richly blessed with three children and five
grandchildren; the couple made their home in Houston for several
years before returning to Snyder in 1976; and
WHEREAS, Since January 1, 1995, Mrs. Fowler had held her
dream job as executive director of the Snyder Chamber of Commerce;
in that capacity, she managed the Scurry County Coliseum, helped
coordinate the White Buffalo Celebration and the Western Swing
Festival, and was a member of the economic development committee
that worked to locate the Price Daniel Unit of the Texas Department
of Criminal Justice in Snyder; in her personal time, she gave
tirelessly as a volunteer with United Way, the American Cancer
Society, and the Girl Scouts of America, and as a PTA president and
Lucky 13 sponsor; and
WHEREAS, Before joining the staff of the chamber of commerce,
she had owned the Sunshine Ice Cream Shop, and she was sales and
operations manager of KSNY Radio for 16 years, during which time she
co-hosted an early morning program titled "Coffee Break"; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her lifetime, Mrs. Fowler made a host of
significant contributions to the betterment of her community and
state, and these achievements endure as a lasting reminder of this
woman and her many good works; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Donna Sue Fowler and extend deep sympathy to her husband, Joe
Fowler; to her children, Lezli Guerrero, Jimmy Joe Fowler, and
Jeffery Fowler and his wife, Tiffany; to her grandchildren; to her
father and stepmother, Elton and Peggy Shearer; and to the other
relatives and many friends of this beloved woman; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Donna
Fowler.
