SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 5
In Memory
of
Daniel Whitworth
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Daniel Whitworth,
director of the Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department,
sustained a great loss with the untimely passing of this beloved
man on June 28, 2003, at the age of 50; and
WHEREAS, Born in Corpus Christi, a sixth-generation native
of that city, Mr. Whitworth was deeply devoted to his hometown and
worked diligently in its behalf as a member of the municipal parks
and recreation staff for more than 20 years; his creativity,
knowledge of his field, and unwavering integrity won him the
respect and affection of colleagues across the state, and in
March 2003 he received the Fellow Award of the Texas Recreation
and Parks Society, the highest honor bestowed by that organization;
and
WHEREAS, A much-loved husband and father, son and brother,
cousin and uncle, Mr. Whitworth belonged to a large and close-knit
family and drew much of his strength from its warmth and vitality;
his life was also enriched by many close friends and sustained by
a profound and abiding faith; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan touched the lives of
countless individuals, both through his work and through the
greatness of his heart, and his life will be forever treasured by
those who were privileged to share his love and friendship; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay special tribute
to the life of Daniel Whitworth and extend sincere sympathy to
the members of his family: to his wife, Mari; to his children,
Josh and Megan; to his mother, Bernice Whitworth; to his sisters,
Betty Menard and her husband, Charles, and Peggy Cunningham and
her husband, Bruce; to his brothers, Wallace Whitworth, Jr.,
and his wife, Jean, Robert Whitworth and his wife, Carole,
William Whitworth and his wife, Cheryl, Thomas Whitworth and
his wife, Mary Ellen, Gerald Whitworth and his wife, Diane,
Joseph Whitworth and his wife, Shelley, and Jack Whitworth and
his wife, Barbara; and to his many other relatives and dear
friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas Senate
adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Daniel Whitworth.
