SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 6
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the City of Corpus Christi, which has been designated a 2003 winner of the All-America City award; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Civic League, the All-America City award is the oldest and most prestigious prize accorded to communities in the United States; the annual contest recognizes cities that have successfully solved urban problems through innovative collaboration among community members, government representatives, local businesses, and nonprofit organizations; and WHEREAS, Corpus Christi earned the 2003 title of All-America City for its resounding success in several community-based projects, including the Forward Corpus Christi initiative, the Juvenile Assessment Center, which helps to keep young people in school, and a successful local air quality program that has made Corpus Christi the only major city in Texas that meets both state and federal clean air standards; these projects have fostered civic pride and spirit and have served to inspire citizens across the country to resolve similar concerns in their cities; and WHEREAS, The people of Corpus Christi have a tradition of problem solving that will continue to invigorate their thriving city well into the future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the citizens of Corpus Christi for their endeavors to improve the city and congratulate them on its selection as an All-America City; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the many individuals who helped achieve this goal as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
