SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 14
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in joining Americans across the nation in recognizing Chief Warrant Officer Ronald D. Young, Jr., United States Army and former prisoner of war, for his honorable and exemplary service to his country during Operation Iraqi Freedom; and WHEREAS, Officer Young was captured by the Iraqis when his Apache Longbow helicopter went down over Karbala, about 60 miles southwest of Baghdad, while he was on a mission in support of coalition ground troops; and WHEREAS, He was one of seven American prisoners of war found and rescued in northern Iraq on April 13, 2003, after Marines were tipped off to their presence; and WHEREAS, After medical treatment and debriefing, Ronald was returned to Fort Bliss where he was met by his family on April 19; the next day, he attended church service in a chapel at Fort Hood with United States President George W. Bush; and WHEREAS, Ronald Young is from Lithia Springs, Georgia; he studied mechanical engineering at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta for two years before he enlisted in the Army in July, 1999, at Fort Knox, Kentucky; he was commissioned a Warrant Officer in October of 1999; following advanced helicopter training in Alabama, he was assigned to the Army's 1st Calvary Division at Fort Hood; he transitioned into the Apache Longbow and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment in June of 2001; his awards include the Army Aviator Badge; and WHEREAS, The State of Texas is grateful to Officer Young for the courage and bravery he has shown while serving his country and for the tremendous sacrifices he and his family have made during Operation Iraqi Freedom; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend United States Army Chief Warrant Officer Ronald D. Young, Jr., for his honorable service to his country and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
