SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 35
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Dr. Nancy Lynne McCray, who is retiring after many 
years of outstanding service to the University of North Texas; 
and
	WHEREAS, Nancy McCray earned her bachelor's degree and 
master's degree from the University of Kentucky and a doctoral 
degree from the University of North Texas; she has also been 
certified as a licensed professional counselor in Texas; and
	WHEREAS, During her long association with the
University of North Texas, she has given of her many talents, 
skills, energy, and heart to make a real difference in the lives 
of its students, faculty, and staff; she has earned a reputation 
as a mentor for students of all types and as a champion for 
students of low-income backgrounds, reaching out to counsel and 
help them in times of need; and
	WHEREAS, In addition to her invaluable work on the Denton 
campus, including helping to establish the Discovery Program, 
Dr. McCray has contributed greatly to the development of the 
school's Dallas campus through her unique skills as a grant 
writer and an educational leader; she helped the campus to 
acquire more than $4.2 million in private gifts and played a 
major role in developing strong community ties; she helped to 
design the student support services program and to equip and 
furnish the campus, as well as to hire its first staff; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. McCray has been involved in countless student 
support projects, including the "Closing the Gaps" committee, 
the Retention Task Force, and the steering committee for the 
Progress in Academics Support System; and
	WHEREAS, Nancy McCray is retiring from her current 
position as the assistant director for university planning; in 
this and in other positions at the University of North Texas, she 
has earned the high regard and respect of her colleagues, and her 
presence at this fine institution will be greatly missed; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend
Dr. Nancy McCray for her loyal and dedicated service to the 
University of North Texas and extend best wishes to her for the 
retirement years ahead; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
