SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 42
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing Woody L. Hunt for his outstanding contributions to the El Paso community and the educational system of Texas; and WHEREAS, A sixth-generation Texan, Woody Hunt is chairman and chief executive officer of Hunt Building Company, Limited, which was started by his great-grandfather in 1947; the company specializes in multifamily housing for private and governmental clients and is active in real estate development in major southwestern markets; and WHEREAS, Woody earned a bachelor's degree in finance from The University of Texas in 1966 and a master's degree in 1970; he later received a master's degree in management from Claremont Graduate School in Pomona, California; and WHEREAS, Woody Hunt is the first El Pasoan in 42 years to serve on the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System; appointed by Governor George W. Bush in 1999 to a six-year term, he is dedicated to raising the state's public universities to a top level of academic excellence and research; and WHEREAS, Committed to the economic health and development of El Paso and the stability of its water system, he had his company develop a 50-year water plan for securing the city's water supply; and WHEREAS, Woody is very active in the El Paso community; he has served on the boards of many organizations, including the El Paso Rehabilitation Center, Saint Clement's Episcopal Parish School, and Providence Memorial Hospital; he is president of the Cimarron Foundation, a private family foundation he and his wife, Gayle, established, which awards funds to numerous El Paso charitable groups, schools, and cultural organizations; and WHEREAS, An exemplary business, educational, and civic leader, Woody Hunt has demonstrated his dedication to his community and his commitment to his fellowman, and he is truly worthy of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Woody L. Hunt for his exceptional achievements and his many contributions to the City of El Paso and the State of Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
