SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 52
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay tribute to Ruth Jurik on the grand occasion of her 75th birthday; and WHEREAS, Ruth was born October 7, 1928, in Sealy, Texas, to Frank and Jane Petrusek; she married Johnnie Jurik on May 8, 1948, in Wallis Presbyterian Church in Wallis, Texas; though she and Johnnie are both native Texans, they are also of 100 percent Czech heritage; and WHEREAS, They lived in Sealy until they moved to Beaumont in 1959, and the couple has been blessed with four children, Janet, Tom, Gayle, and Susan, and nine grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Ruth was an elementary school teacher for 22 years, and she continues to be active in a number of civic and community organizations and volunteers at Some Other Place Soup Kitchen and Meals on Wheels; and WHEREAS, A woman of deep religious convictions, Ruth is an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and practices her beliefs daily; she is an elder and a clerk of session and also serves on the board of directors for Westminster Children's Center; and WHEREAS, She enjoys entertaining guests, and her hobbies are oil painting, glass staining, bowling, square dancing, gardening, and playing dominoes; a beloved and respected member of her community, Ruth is known for her courage, her compassion for others, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby recognize Ruth Jurik as a treasured citizen of our state and extend to her best wishes for a joyous 75th birthday celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
