SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 56
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on the occasion of its seventh annual Men's Day Community and Scholarship Breakfast, which takes place in Houston on July 19, 2003; and WHEREAS, The annual breakfast raises funds to support two important endeavors; the Antioch Project Reach develops affordable housing in Freedmen's Town in Houston's Fourth Ward, and the church's scholarship program provides deserving youths with college scholarships; since 1993, money raised at the breakfast has made it possible to award 39 scholarships to first-year college students who were admitted to colleges and universities throughout the United States; and WHEREAS, The keynote address for the 2003 event will be delivered by State Representative Sylvester Turner; and WHEREAS, The annual breakfast is a worthy event that benefits residents of Houston, allowing them to realize personal dreams of home ownership or a college education; Antioch Missionary Baptist Church is rightfully proud of its success in helping others reach such important goals; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church for its invaluable service to the community through the annual Men's Day Community and Scholarship Breakfast and extend best wishes to the Brotherhood Ministry for a successful event; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
