SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 60
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the College Station Middle School students who won the National Middle School Science Bowl academic competition in Golden, Colorado, in June of 2003; and WHEREAS, The College Station team of Brian Liu, Alex Liu, Sean Lau, and Becca Yasskin topped 15 other teams competing for the honor of being named the best and brightest among the country's young science students; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by the United States Department of Energy and General Motors Corporation, the National Middle School Science Bowl challenges today's sixth-grade through eighth-grade students to learn about math and science and encourages them to choose careers in these fields; and WHEREAS, Under the guidance of their trip sponsor and math teacher, Caroline Jones, the College Station Middle School students worked hard to become national champions and, in addition to bringing home a trophy and a $300 certificate for their school, won $100 gift certificates to Discovery.com; and WHEREAS, The members of the College Station team have the ability to excel and have developed their talents through their commitment and determination to succeed, and they are a source of much pride to their families, their school, and their community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Alex Liu, Brian Liu, Sean Lau, and Becca Yasskin for their outstanding accomplishment and extend to them best wishes for success in the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
