SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 61
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Lonny G. Traweek on the occasion of his retirement
after nearly 33 years of outstanding service with the Texas
Highway Department, the State Department of Highways and Public
Transportation, and the Texas Department of Transportation; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Traweek earned a bachelor's degree in civil
engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1970; he
began his career with the department as an engineering assistant
in the design office of the Dallas district office that same
year; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Traweek has been involved in
many of the monumental changes in the transportation infrastructure
of Texas, including the design of many of the freeway and urban
expansion projects in the Dallas area; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Traweek is justly proud of his major role in
the reconstruction of eight miles of the North Central Expressway,
one of the most complex projects ever accomplished in the state;
and
WHEREAS, In 1992, Mr. Traweek was named district engineer
in Bryan; since that time, he has diligently overseen the planning,
designing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the
transportation infrastructure in Brazos, Burleson, Freestone,
Grimes, Leon, Madison, Milam, Robertson, Walker, and Washington
counties; and
WHEREAS, Lonny Traweek has earned the high regard of his
colleagues for his commitment to ensuring a safe transportation
system for the state, and he is universally known to possess a
heart that is loyal and dedicated to serving the people of Texas;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend
Lonny G. Traweek for his devoted service to the Lone Star State
during the more than three decades that he has worked with the
Texas Department of Transportation and extend to him best wishes
for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
