SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 64

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Willie A. Tempton for his outstanding service to 
Prairie View A&M University; and
	WHEREAS, Mr. Tempton was appointed interim president of 
Prairie View A&M University on June 6, 2002, after serving as 
vice president for finance and administration at the university 
since 1996; and
	WHEREAS, He had previously served as assistant vice 
president for physical plant and public safety and had 
coordinated budget expenditures and travel; and
	WHEREAS, Over the past 38 years, Mr. Tempton has held 
positions that required his management expertise in a number of 
areas; he has worked with government officials and individuals
in large communities and major corporations; and
	WHEREAS, He earned his degree in biology from Prairie View 
A&M University and completed course work in guidance and 
counseling; he is a retired Army colonel and a graduate of the 
United States Army War College; and
	WHEREAS, An exemplary educational leader, Willie Tempton 
has played a major role in the betterment of the university 
community in Prairie View, and he is truly worthy of legislative 
recognition; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend
Willie A. Tempton for his exceptional achievements and
his many contributions to Prairie View A&M University,
The Texas A&M University System, and the State of Texas and 
extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
