SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 71
In Memory
of
Bunny Jean Raba
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Bunny Jean Raba,
who died on July 2, 2003, at the age of 62; and
WHEREAS, Bunny Jean was born in San Antonio and attended
Providence High School, where she met her husband-to-be
Carl F. Raba, Jr.; the couple wed in 1957 and was blessed with
a family of five children and nine grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Bunny was a cofounder of Raba-Kistner Consultants,
Incorporated, an engineering firm with offices in Texas and
Mexico; she retired from the firm as senior chairman of the board
in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Bunny was an exemplary lady whose commitment to
faith, family, and education was reflected in all her endeavors
and the groups she championed; and
WHEREAS, A leading San Antonio citizen, she was respected
in the community for her service on the boards of the National
Kidney Foundation, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce,
and the Young Men's Christian Association of San Antonio and the
Hill Country; she was especially proud to have served from 1999
to 2002 as president of the board of the Seton Home, which serves
teenage mothers who choose to keep their babies; and
WHEREAS, Bunny received numerous accolades for her many
contributions to the community; perhaps the one that captured
her character best was the 1996 Any Baby Can Alliance Angel
Award, which recognized her for her compassion for others and
her enduring commitment to her fellowman; and
WHEREAS, To her many friends, Bunny was affectionately
known as BJ, and she will be fondly remembered by them for her
graciousness, her warmth, and her generosity of spirit; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Bunny lived her faith in her
daily life and was a member of Saint Luke's Catholic Church; for
her selfless service to the church, she was inducted as a Lady
into the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher in 1989; and
WHEREAS, Bunny lived her life to the fullest and was a
devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves behind
memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many
friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Bunny Jean Raba: her
husband, Carl F. Raba, Jr.; her sons and daughters-in-law,
Gary W. Raba and Joni and William L. Raba and Merry; her daughters
and son-in-law, Nancy Raba Maloy and Bill, Cheryl L. Raba, and
Cathy Raba Turcotte; her mother, Edith Bridge, and her husband,
Tom; her brother, William C. Dever; and her nine grandchildren
and other beloved family members; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Bunny Jean Raba.
