SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 76
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize India Fest - 2003, a celebration of the 56th anniversary of India's Independence Day, which is being held in Houston on August 16, 2003; and WHEREAS, The grand occasion will be sponsored by the India Culture Center in collaboration with the Indian Consulate in Houston and other major Indo-American organizations in the Houston metroplex; and WHEREAS, The all-day celebration will feature cultural, social, and educational programs for people of all ages; among the events scheduled are a ping-pong tournament, a walking parade, and a ceremony to honor the flags of the United States and of India; India's heritage and cultural diversity will be featured through art and fashion shows and through music and dance entertainment; delicious food representing the cuisines of India's various regions will also be served; approximately 12,000 to 15,000 people are expected to attend the celebration, and over 100 business and corporate exhibitors will display their products and services; and WHEREAS, Representing nearly 120,000 people of Indian origin in the Greater Houston Area, the India Culture Center has served the local community since 1973; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend best wishes to all who attend the 56th anniversary celebration of India's Independence Day; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this special occasion as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
