SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 84
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Corporal Titus Edgar Alexander for his patriotic service to the United States of America as a member of the armed forces; and WHEREAS, Titus Alexander is the son of Mae Collins Alexander and Willie Alexander and the grandson of Newton Isaac Collins, Jr., and Grace Kindell Collins; he attended Pilot Knob Elementary School, which his grandfather built for African-American children to attend; at the time, Travis County did not provide a school or a teacher to educate black children; and WHEREAS, Following the example set by his uncles, who served in their nation's military during World War I, Titus Alexander answered the call to come to the aid of his country during World War II; and WHEREAS, Corporal Alexander served with the 304th Aviation Squadron and was stationed at Kelly Air Force Base in Texas and at Tuskegee Army Air Force Base in Alabama, where he served in a medical unit; and WHEREAS, For distinguishing himself as a member of the military during World War II, Corporal Alexander was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal; and WHEREAS, Corporal Alexander and his family made many sacrifices during World War II, and he did not hesitate to step forward to serve his country and to defend the cause of human liberty; and WHEREAS, During the Collins and Rucker family reunion, which will take place in Austin from October 9 to October 12, 2003, the Buffalo Soldiers Association will conduct a special ceremony to pay tribute to Titus and two other family members who served in our nation's armed forces; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Corporal Titus Edgar Alexander for his courage as an American patriot and his admirable service to his country; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
