SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 91
In Memory
of
Miguel Urdiales
WHEREAS, The Laredo community mourns the loss of esteemed
civic leader Miguel "Mike" Urdiales, whose untimely passing on
July 5, 2003, at the age of 62, has profoundly saddened the family
and friends of a man described as the most gentle of gentlemen and
as one of Laredo's finest; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised from humble beginnings on the
westside of Laredo, Mr. Urdiales attended Laredo public schools
and Laredo Junior College; early on he sought to make a difference
in the lives of those around him; a patriotic citizen, he enlisted
in the United States Air Force and was a proud Vietnam Veteran;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Urdiales earned a bachelor's degree and a
master's degree and was working on his doctorate degree; he had
retired from his position as an agent for State Farm Insurance
after 25 years of loyal service; and
WHEREAS, He had a passion for politics and served his
community with pride, integrity and honesty, first as a member
of the Laredo Independent School District, then as Webb County
Treasurer and most recently as Webb County Commissioner,
Precinct 4; and
WHEREAS, He was a devout Catholic and planned and built
Saint Anne's Mission on his land to provide a place of serenity
and tranquility for his community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay special tribute
to the life of Miguel "Mike" Urdiales and extend deepest sympathies
to the members of his family: his wife of 33 years, Alicia; his
sons, Frank and Michael; his daughter, Monica; his grandchildren,
Michelle, A.J., Michael, Diana, Frankie, Allison and Emily; and
his many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
in memory of Miguel "Mike" Urdiales.
