SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 101
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Mallory Simpson, who has read 50 books as a participant in the Texas Reading Club; and WHEREAS, Mallory is a student at Alamo Heights Junior School in San Antonio; she and her fellow students have been encouraged to discover the joy of reading and develop an enduring love of books; and WHEREAS, The Texas Reading Club is a project of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission which seeks to foster children's love of reading and promote the use of libraries; since the club began in 1959, millions of young Texans have been encouraged to read for pleasure, especially during the summer months when they are on vacation from school; and WHEREAS, Each year a statewide theme for the club is selected; the 2003 theme is "Mission Possible: Spy a Book!" and focuses the attention of readers on history, culture, adventure, partnerships and pen pals, and spies and secret codes; and WHEREAS, Mallory has demonstrated a deep commitment to the goals of the Texas Reading Club; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Mallory Simpson for reading 50 books and extend best wishes to her as she encounters the many extraordinary adventures to be found in reading for pleasure; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
