SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 103
In Memory
of
Larry Layne Anderson
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Copperas Cove in mourning the loss of Larry Layne Anderson,
who died July 4, 2003, at the age of 58; and
WHEREAS, Larry was born in Ranger, Texas, on February 4, 1945,
to Mary Vernon Ramsey Anderson and Otis Robert Anderson; he
married Carolyn Kattner on December 14, 1968, at Grace United
Methodist Church in Copperas Cove; the couple shared a loving
marriage for more than 34 years and were blessed with a family
of three children and two grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, An educator for many years, Larry served as a
junior high school teacher, coach, and athletic coordinator for
the Copperas Cove Independent School District and as a teacher
and athletic director for the Lometa schools; in addition, he
was a high school principal and assistant superintendent in
Gatesville; the last position he held before his illness was
that of superintendent of the Blooming Grove Independent School
District; and
WHEREAS, Larry served his country honorably in the
United States Air Force, where he was a captain, an aircraft
commander, and a pilot; during the Vietnam War, he completed
1,100 combat sorties over hostile territory; for serving his
country with distinction, he was awarded the Air Medal with two
Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and numerous
other medals; and
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, courage, and
generosity, Larry gave unselfishly of his time to others, and
his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by
those who knew him; and
WHEREAS, Larry Anderson lived his life to the fullest and
was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves
behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family
and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Larry Layne Anderson:
his wife, Carolyn Anderson; his daughter, Dena Anderson;
his sons and daughters-in-law, Bret and Jodi Anderson and
Derek and Alyssa Anderson; his brother, Wayne Anderson, and his
wife, Dottie; his grandson, Bryce Anderson; his granddaughter,
Jayce Anderson; and his mother-in-law, Quieta Kattner; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Larry Layne Anderson.
