SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 105
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Barbara Grove on the occasion of her retirement after 18 years of outstanding service to the City of Austin and the State of Texas as director of Visitor Services for the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau; and WHEREAS, Barbara has represented the very best of Austin hospitality to visitors and guests, enthusiastically devoting her time and energy to their needs and requests; and WHEREAS, Over the years, she has acted as the City of Austin's welcoming ambassador to the many people who stop by the Austin Visitor Center; she has answered countless questions, from the serious to the ridiculous, and has always managed to retain her sense of humor; in all instances, she has graciously pointed out-of-town guests in the right direction as they set out to visit notable landmarks or to explore Austin's unique arts and dining venues and experiences; and WHEREAS, Prior to assuming the position as director of visitor services, Barbara had a successful career as a professional musician; she played oboe for the Dallas and Fort Worth symphonies, ballet, and opera companies for 20 years; and WHEREAS, Committed to participating in the city's civic affairs, Barbara plans to remain active with the Downtown Austin Alliance and Saint David's Episcopal Church and to serve as chairman of the Austin Chamber Music Center and as a volunteer with the Austin Farmers Market; she also plans to lend her expertise and assistance to various conventions sponsored by the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau; and WHEREAS, Barbara has served the capital city of Texas with loyalty and dedication, and her presence at the Austin Visitor Center will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Barbara Grove for her exemplary service to the City of Austin and the State of Texas and extend best wishes to her for her endeavors during the retirement years ahead; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
