SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 115
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize all associated with the Floresville Peanut Festival,
which is held each year during the second weekend of October; and
WHEREAS, The festival began in 1938 to celebrate the
importance of the peanut to Wilson County and southwest Texas
agriculture; and
WHEREAS, A family event, the Floresville Peanut Festival
includes enjoyable activities for all ages; the Goober Games for
children kick off the celebration on Tuesday afternoon; on
Thursday evening, Queen Tunaep and King Reboog, whose names
are peanut and goober spelled backwards, are crowned; and
WHEREAS, A Kiddie Parade launches the main celebration
on Friday; a Benefit Scholarship Street Dance is held Friday
evening, and food and carnival arcade booths will be available;
and
WHEREAS, The grand party of the Floresville Peanut
Festival is held on Saturday, beginning with the official
Floresville Peanut Festival Parade at 10:00 a.m.; other
activities include an Old Fiddler's Contest and a Peanut Brittle
Contest; peanut products such as homemade peanut butter, peanut
cookies, pies and ice cream will all be served; and
WHEREAS, The Floresville Peanut Festival provides the
city's residents a wonderful opportunity to come together in a
community event that celebrates their farming heritage; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the
organizers of this year's Floresville Peanut Festival and extend
best wishes to all who attend; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the City of Floresville as a memento from the Texas Senate.
