SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 118
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Bill Hodge, who won the 50 through 54 age division of
men's racquetball at the 2003 Summer National Senior Games, which
were held June 2-6, 2003, in Hampton Roads, Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Bill overcame a tendon injury that had sidelined
him for more than seven months to become one of the top six
preliminary-round players at the national games; he finished 4-1
in a round-robin-formatted gold-medal round and then defeated a
California player to take the national racquetball title; and
WHEREAS, An athlete since his youth, Bill was an outstanding
football and baseball player during his high school days and set
career records as a wide receiver at Trinity University; and
WHEREAS, He learned to play racquetball in college and
became expert at the sport, eventually winning four doubles
championships with a different partner each time; and
WHEREAS, Bill is an outstanding athlete and a highly
skilled racquetball player, and he has earned the respect and
admiration of his fellow competitors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Bill Hodge
on his exceptional athletic ability and extend congratulations
to him on his victory at the 2003 Summer National Senior Games;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
