SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 128
In Memory
of
Albert Claude Barger
WHEREAS, With the passing of Albert Claude "A. C." Barger on July 22, 2003, at the age of 73, the citizens of Centerville lost a valued community leader and friend; and WHEREAS, Mr. Barger was born on January 11, 1930, in Houston; he was a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War and served with distinction as a radio operator on the 38th Parallel; and WHEREAS, Store manager and owner of the Wormser Hat Company in Houston, he also was a real estate investor; and WHEREAS, In 1985, he relocated to Centerville and soon became a leader in the affairs of the community; he was an organizer and chair of the Leon County Republicans, a founder of the Southeast Water Supply Corporation, and a founder of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9906; in addition, he directed the United States Selective Service in Leon County, the Leon County Crime Stoppers, and the Leon County Extension Service; and WHEREAS, This noteworthy Texan was a member of the Silver-Haired Legislature; he was elected president of the Centerville Chamber of Commerce and to the board of the Trinity River Authority, and his contributions include founding the Leon County Career Day for graduating high school seniors and helping to establish the Leon County Drill Team; moreover, he was a certified Methodist lay minister and a member of the First Baptist Church in Buffalo, and he took the role of Santa at the senior citizens center and "Santa on the Square" for many years; and WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to enjoy the friendship of A. C. Barger will long remember his caring spirit and his commitment to his community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Albert Claude Barger and extend deep sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Darleen Barger; to his daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Scott Hollomon and Donna and Gary Everett; to his grandchildren; to his sisters, Betty Nixon, Edith Hassler, and Elaine Baker; and to all those who mourn the passing of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Albert Claude "A. C." Barger.
