SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 129
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Austin in paying tribute to Tanya Streeter for breaking the 
world freediving record in the variable ballast category on 
July 21, 2003, and for setting another world record the following 
day in the constant weight without fins category; and
	WHEREAS, Tanya accomplished these feats at Providenciales 
in the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Eastern Caribbean; she 
broke the world record in the variable ballast category by 
descending 400 feet and resurfacing without the help of air 
tanks or buoyancy aids; the dive took three minutes, 38 seconds, 
and beat the men's record by six feet and the women's record by 
88 feet; and 
	WHEREAS, The next day, she set a mark in the new category, 
constant weight without fins, by descending to 115 feet on a 
single breath and resurfacing without the aid of fins after 
one minute and 44 seconds; Tanya now owns five deep freediving 
records--the constant ballast, free immersion, no limits, 
variable ballast, and constant weight without fins; and
	WHEREAS, An environmental activist, Tanya got her 
start in the sport of freediving in 1998; today she is one of 
the world's most accomplished and recognized athletes in her 
sport and is now the holder of nine world records; and
	WHEREAS, Tanya was educated at Roedean School and 
Brighton University in Great Britain and now lives in Austin 
with her husband, Paul; and

	WHEREAS, Her phenomenal record of success in a sport that 
is potentially very dangerous shows her commitment to safety and 
careful attention to detail, and she sets an excellent example 
for others to follow; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Tanya Streeter
for her outstanding record of achievements and extend to her 
congratulations on her latest accomplishments in freediving; 
and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
