LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATURE 1st CALLED SESSION - 2003

July 3, 2003

TO:
Honorable Bill Ratliff, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB9 by Brimer (Relating to statistical information concerning certain judicial proceedings to bypass parental notice of a minor's abortion.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Under current Texas law, a minor can receive judicial approval to have an abortion without notifying the minor’s parents. However, statewide statistical information regarding the frequency of such approvals is not collected. The bill would require the Texas Supreme Court to establish a program to collect statistical information regarding the number of applications and appeals for such judicial approvals.

The Supreme Court of Texas anticipates there to be no fiscal implications.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
