R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Hector Martinez, Jr., of Mercedes was recently 
selected as the San Antonio regional winner in the 2003 Hispanic 
Heritage Youth Awards program, and this achievement truly merits 
special recognition; and
	WHEREAS, The Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards program 
recognizes young men and women from across the country for their 
dedication to academic excellence and commitment to serving their 
communities; nominees are selected for their academic achievement, 
outstanding civic contributions, dedication to self-improvement, 
and overall character as a role model; and
	WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez is one of 12 winners nationwide, and 
for his efforts he was awarded a $2,500 scholarship; he is the son 
of Hector and Susana Martinez and graduated third in his high school 
class; and
	WHEREAS, This exceptional Texan plans to attend The 
University of Texas at Austin in the fall of 2003, and it is a 
pleasure to recognize him for his recent achievement as he embarks 
on the next chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Hector 
Martinez, Jr., on being selected as the San Antonio regional winner 
in the 2003 Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards program and  extend to 
him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, 
be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Mr. Martinez as an expression of high regard by the 
Texas House of Representatives.
