H.R. No. 37 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Barbara Evans has served the State of Texas as an employee of the Texas Department of Human Services and the Texas Department of Health, has served the citizens of Abilene in these posts, and has volunteered countless hours to benefit the city and citizens of Abilene; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Evans has served 23 years as an employee of the Region 02/09 Texas Department of Human Services office in Abilene, in which she rose from the bottom to the top in her positions as administrative secretary, management services officer, community services director, and regional administrator; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Evans has done an exceptional job as regional administrator in which she has guided Region 02/09 to be amongst the best in the state in helping persons with disabilities, providing long-term care services, guiding families' moves from welfare to self-sufficiency, and working to slash the teen pregnancy rate; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Evans earned a bachelor of business administration in management degree in 1984 from McMurry University, which she completed with a 4.0 grade point average while working full-time and attending to her duties as a wife and mother; and WHEREAS, She has volunteered tirelessly in Abilene's community, participating on the Abilene Mental Health Association Board, serving as an Abilene-Taylor County Case Management Coalition member, a participant of Leadership Abilene, a longtime worker for United Way of Abilene, and a committee member for the YMCA in Abilene, and guiding the Welfare-to-Work Initiative Committee; and WHEREAS, She is married to Steve Evans, and she has one daughter, M'lissa, and one son, Travis; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor Barbara Evans on her retirement as regional administrator of Texas Department of Human Services Region 02/09 after many years of service as a devoted worker to benefit the region in each of the positions that she has held; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Evans as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
