R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Juanita Daniel Zachry has earned widespread respect for her writings about the history and beauty of Abilene, West Texas, and the State of Texas; and WHEREAS, Currently a member of Abilene Writers Guild, which she founded, she inspired many writers by her endless travels across Texas and the United States for research to make writings of West Texas factual and understandable to the readers she may touch; and WHEREAS, Ms. Zachry has published several history-based books including A History of Rural Taylor County, A Living History: Abilene - The Key City, Buffalo Gap Historic Village, Potosi - The First One Hundred Years, Merkel Area History Book, and Juanita Daniel Zachry's Classics; and WHEREAS, She has written articles that have been purchased by American History Illustrated, Texas Highways, Arizona Highways, America's Civil Wars, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Early American Life, and many other historical and western magazines; and WHEREAS, She was inspired to write stories of history by hearing how her own parents, A. M. Daniel and Exa Green Daniel, settled in Taylor County with each of their parents at young ages around 1900, which later married and raised Juanita at Horn in Jones County and encouraged her as she excelled her writing skills by graduating from Noodle High School, taking courses at Writers Digest - a famous writer's school, and the University of Oklahoma; and WHEREAS, She has also been encouraged and inspired by her late husband, B. A. Zachry, and her three children: Barbara Ann (Mrs. Coy) Williams - Abilene, Beth (Mrs. Jim) Pate-Beasley - Garland, and Charles Zachry - Garden City; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commends Juanita Daniel Zachry for her extensive writings that help to preserve the history of West Texas for her fellow citizens and for future generations and extend to her best wishes for success and happiness in the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution is prepared for Ms. Zachry as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
