H.R. No. 39 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Andrea Barrera Blake of The Woodlands on July 24, 2003, at the age of 28, has brought an unimaginable and tragic loss to the family and many friends of this esteemed young woman; and WHEREAS, Born on August 8, 1974, in Bogotá, Columbia, she arrived in America unable to speak English and embraced this new world in which she found herself, undaunted by the challenge of a different language and an unfamiliar culture; through determination and perseverance she mastered the ways and nuances of her adopted land, completing college and embarking on a career as a bilingual teacher in the Conroe Independent School District; and WHEREAS, Faith played an integral role in Mrs. Blake's life, and she was an active member of Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, where she taught Sunday school; she was just days away from realizing her most cherished goals of becoming a mother and having the opportunity to serve her community; and WHEREAS, Although it is painful to say goodbye to one so young and full of promise, it is fitting to remember that, while her time on earth was far too brief, Andrea Barrera Blake profoundly affected and inspired those around her, and her indomitable spirit will surely live on in the hearts and minds of all those whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay special tribute to the life of Andrea Barrera Blake and extend sincere sympathy to her husband, Anthony Blake; to her son, Sebastian Douglas Blake; to her parents, Jaime Barrera and Dora Garcia; to her sister, Diana Barrera; to her brother, Jaime Barrera; and to the many other relatives and friends of this cherished young woman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Andrea Barrera Blake.
