R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, John H. "Jack" Stibbs of The Woodlands has been named president of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA), and the appointment of this committed activist will undoubtedly benefit those who suffer from the rare and dangerous disease known as pulmonary hypertension; and WHEREAS, A respected attorney, Mr. Stibbs is a native of New Orleans and a 1976 graduate of Tulane University Law School; he is a former vice president and general counsel of Skytop Brewster and recently resigned from the prestigious law firm of Winstead Sechrest & Minick P.C. to accept the presidency of the PHA; and WHEREAS, Since the diagnosis of his daughter, Emily, with pulmonary hypertension six years ago, Mr. Stibbs has become a leader in the PHA, organizing and overseeing the association's first research fund-raiser, the Cure PH Houston Area Golf Tournament and Gala; the group's largest fund-raiser, this annual event has raised more than $700,000 for the association in the past five years alone; and WHEREAS, Mr. Stibbs has an aggressive agenda that focuses on public education, awareness, and advocacy issues related to the disease; his goal is to work closely with several prominent health care organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; and WHEREAS, The efforts of Jack Stibbs and the PHA will surely help to create awareness of pulmonary hypertension and improve physicians' ability to diagnose this rare and complex disease, and it is a privilege to recognize Mr. Stibbs and all those associated with this fine organization for their commitment to this worthy cause; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Jack Stibbs on his selection as president of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and extend to him best wishes for great success in this vital role; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Stibbs as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
