R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at the loss of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Hector Perez of Corpus Christi, who lost his life in battle at the age of 40; and WHEREAS, This courageous soldier embarked from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, in support of our nation's campaign to liberate Iraqi citizens from oppression; a member of the 101st Airborne Division, he was killed in action when his convoy was ambushed near Al Hawd; and WHEREAS, The beloved husband of Elisa Perez and father of three devoted daughters, Staff Sergeant Perez lived life to the fullest and treasured his family above all else; he died on July 24, 2003, for the hopes and dreams of men and women in this country, and so that men and women in a faraway country could also hope and dream; and WHEREAS, Unflinching bravery and a resolute commitment to fulfill his oath to serve, regardless of the personal consequences, were demonstrated by this valorous American, who gave his life to preserve liberty; the State of Texas and the nation now mourn the loss of Hector Perez: a soldier for a time, a hero forever; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor the life of Hector Perez and extend deepest sympathy to his family: to his wife, Elisa Perez; to his daughters, Maria, Elisa, and Lily; to his father, Esequiel Perez; to his sister, Sandra Perez-Vasquez; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hector Perez.
