H.R. No. 53 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of longtime Wichita Falls resident A. R. "Bud" Dillard were deeply saddened by the passing of this esteemed gentleman on July 30, 2003, at the age of 77; and WHEREAS, A student of Wichita Falls public schools, Mr. Dillard graduated from The University of Texas at Austin, and he ably served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy; and WHEREAS, Mr. Dillard was well-known for his success in a variety of business enterprises, including oil and gas, beer distribution, and banking; in the early 1960s, he and business partner Bill Thomas purchased Falls Distributing, and in the ensuing years he founded Cobra Oil & Gas as well as the Parmer County Cattle Company; Mr. Dillard also established the Wichita Falls Savings Association, and he served on the boards of First Wichita National Bank and Parker Square Bank; and WHEREAS, In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Dillard gave generously of his time and financial resources to myriad causes and charities; while he avoided public recognition for his generosity, Mr. Dillard greatly benefited such local projects as the North Texas Rehabilitation Center and Texas Ranch Roundup; and WHEREAS, Mr. Dillard was an outstanding entrepreneur who shared his success freely with others, and he will long be remembered for his honesty, his business acumen, his wonderful, caring nature, and his quiet philanthropy; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Bud Dillard and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his beloved wife of 49 years, Kay Rugeley Dillard; to his three children, Carol Dillard, Jeff Dillard, and Ryan Dillard; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of A. R. "Bud" Dillard.
