R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, During June and July of 2003, Mateo Delgado has served with distinction as a legislative intern in State Representative Chente Quintanilla's Capitol office in Austin; and WHEREAS, In carrying out his duties as an intern, he has enhanced his knowledge of the legislative process and the issues facing citizens of the Lone Star State while gaining valuable experience in a political environment; and WHEREAS, Mr. Delgado received bachelor's degrees in psychology and anthropology from the University of New Mexico (UNM) in 2002 and will graduate from the UNM School of Law in 2005; and WHEREAS, In addition to meeting the heavy demands of his academic schedule, this impressive young man made the time to participate in numerous extracurricular activities while an undergraduate; a member of the men's swimming and diving team at UNM, he won several national awards and earned a bronze medal in the 400-meter freestyle swimming competition at the 1999 Para-Olympic Pan American Games, representing the United States; in addition, he organized and taught a swimming camp for disabled children at UNM and coached a swim camp for disabled children in Portland, Oregon; and WHEREAS, Respected for his leadership abilities, he served his fellow students in key positions, including president of the UNM Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and organized outreach programs through the athletic department; moreover, Mr. Delgado traveled throughout New Mexico as a motivational speaker in behalf of the UNM athletic department and performed the same service for the National Collegiate Athletic Association; and WHEREAS, Mateo Delgado has demonstrated exceptional commitment and integrity during his tenure as a legislative intern, and he is an inspiring role model for his coworkers, fellow students, and all who know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Mateo Delgado for his outstanding service in behalf of the citizens of House District 75 and extend to him sincere best wishes for success and happiness in the coming years; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Delgado as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
