R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On August 18, 2003, the Leander Independent School District (ISD) is dedicating a new elementary school named for Patricia Faye Knowles, an esteemed teacher and administrator, and this event provides an ideal opportunity to reflect on her outstanding achievements; and WHEREAS, Ms. Knowles attained her bachelor's degree from The University of Texas and her master's degree from the University of Houston and her exceptional teaching career includes seven years with the Houston ISD and two years at a correctional facility in Sugarland; and WHEREAS, She later began a long and productive association with the Leander ISD, first as a classroom teacher for 13 years, then as a member of the district's board of trustees for nine years, and throughout that time she has remained committed to providing the best possible education to all the students in her charge; and WHEREAS, Among her many successes at the Leander ISD are the creation of the "Johnny Can Spell" program and the implementation of Spanish instruction at the elementary-school level; Ms. Knowles has also been a tireless champion of the performing arts, encouraging students to broaden their educational experience through participation in the arts, and she has attended numerous plays, concerts, and other performances through the years with the enthusiasm and pride of a grandmother; and WHEREAS, In addition, she has devoted herself to serving her fellow citizens as a member of the Cedar Park Public Library Board, is an active congregant at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and has taken an active role in the political process over the past 15 years as a Republican precinct chair; and WHEREAS, This remarkable Texan's accomplishments as a teacher, administrator, and civic leader are an inspiration to all who have the pleasure of knowing her, and it is indeed appropriate that she be honored with this lasting symbol of appreciation for her many significant contributions to the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Patricia Faye Knowles on the occasion of the dedication of an elementary school in her name; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Knowles as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
