R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With the passing of Hardy Sanders on March 8, 2003, at the age of 73, the citizens of Northeast Tarrant County lost a respected business and civic leader and the state lost one of its distinguished native sons; and WHEREAS, Widely known as a philanthropist and humanitarian, Mr. Sanders was a man just as well known for expressing his opinions in person or through writing letters; he was highly respected for the strength of his convictions and for his dedicated service to his fellow Texans; and WHEREAS, The owner of Bates Container in North Richland Hills, Mr. Sanders was bighearted when asked for donations, but he also insisted on accountability from the myriad charitable and civic organizations that he so generously supported; he was willing to work to ensure that funds were used to maximum benefit, and he devoted much time and expertise as a board member of such organizations as the Colleyville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Arts Council of NorthEast Tarrant County, and the Tarrant County United Way; and WHEREAS, Describing his reputation as that of a liberal in conservative circles and a conservative in liberal ones, Hardy Sanders drew upon his own convictions to make a difference in this world; although he will be deeply missed, he will long be remembered for his innate honesty, his sincere dedication to his family and community, and his good-natured sense of humor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Hardy Sanders and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 53 years, Betty Sanders; to his children, Mark, Scott, and Marcia; to his grandchildren; and to all those who mourn the passing of this beloved man; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hardy Sanders.
