R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Regena Vetene Thomas of Houston on
July 25, 2003, has profoundly saddened the family and friends of
this esteemed health-care worker and friend to the community; and
WHEREAS, Born on June 23, 1937, in Houston, Mrs. Thomas was
reared in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and belonged to
one of the founding families of Brown Chapel AME Church in the West
End; she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1955 and
attended Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, In 1960, Mrs. Thomas earned a bachelor of science
degree in nursing from Prairie View A&M University; she enjoyed a
successful career as a registered nurse, in both local hospitals
and schools, retiring in 1990 from the Houston Independent School
District; and
WHEREAS, A respected medical professional and devoted mother
of six, this caring woman positively influenced many lives, and her
memory will long endure in the hearts of those who were fortunate
enough to have known her; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Regena Vetene Thomas and extend deepest sympathy to the members of
her family: to her children, Rosiland, Robert, Raychelle, Raula,
Russell, and Randall; to her grandchildren, Halima, Jaelyn, Jade,
and Brandon; to her three nieces and six nephews; and to her other
relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Regena
Vetene Thomas.
