R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Toyota Motor Corporation recently announced plans
to build its sixth North American assembly plant in San Antonio, and
on behalf of all the state's citizens, this chamber would like to
say to Toyota, "Tekisasu ni yookoso"--Welcome to Texas; and
WHEREAS, Representing an $800 million investment by Toyota,
the plant will manufacture approximately 150,000 Tundra full-size
trucks annually, beginning in 2006; and
WHEREAS, This facility will bring approximately 2,000 new
jobs to the Lone Star State, producing a payroll expected to top $37
million, and it will indirectly create work for many more Texans;
and
WHEREAS, The new plant will mean jobs, paychecks, and a
higher standard of living for thousands of Texans while helping the
state build a stronger, more diversified economy; and
WHEREAS, Toyota's Texas initiative represents the beginning
of a new economic boom in our state, for companies looking to
prosper in the 21st century will find no better home than Texas; and
WHEREAS, This successful collaboration between the City of
San Antonio, Bexar County, the State of Texas, and Toyota proves
that public-private partnerships can indeed work to create jobs for
Texans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the Toyota Motor
Corporation for its selection of San Antonio as the site of its next
manufacturing facility, and that it say "Domo Arigato
Gozaimas"--Thank you very much--for the enormous benefits this
plant will confer.
