R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder of China Spring is receiving a prestigious honor with his induction into the Texas Lions Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, Since joining the China Spring Lions Club in 1982 as a charter member, Mr. Schroeder has ably led fellow members as a three-term president and as the district governor in addition to holding every other elected office in the club; he has also played a vital role in many important projects, such as the creation of the 10-acre China Spring Lions Park, which features a community clubhouse, a playground, picnic areas, and a ballfield; and WHEREAS, Mr. Schroeder is a proud participant in other charitable endeavors undertaken by Lions Clubs International, which sponsors programs that offer free eye exams and eyeglasses to the needy, maintains the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville for children with physical disabilities and diabetes, and has created Leader Dogs for the Blind, one of the largest guide dog schools in the world; and WHEREAS, One of only 158 members to be selected for the Texas Lions Hall of Fame since inductions began in 1972, Mr. Schroeder has brought to the organization a broad range of professional experiences; a 27-year veteran of the U.S. Army involved in the Korean and Vietnam wars, Mr. Schroeder worked at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., participating in President Nixon's inauguration and overseeing the military personnel present at President Eisenhower's funeral; after serving in the military, he taught history and science in public schools for 11 years; and WHEREAS, This distinguished citizen has demonstrated admirable qualities of integrity, leadership, and compassion, and his deep commitment and hard work have benefited the lives of his fellow Texans; a source of tremendous pride for the Lions Club and the community, Mr. Schroeder truly deserves special legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Ken Schroeder on his induction into the Texas Lions Hall of Fame and extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Schroeder as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
