R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Dr. Mary Sue Pannell is retiring from Sul Ross State 
University Rio Grande College, bringing to a close an impressive 
career as an educator and administrator that has spanned more than 
30 years; and
	WHEREAS, After joining Sul Ross State University as an 
instructor, she rose to the position of professor of education and 
also served the Alpine campus as field experience director, 
certification officer, chair of the Southern Association of 
Self-Study, and associate vice president for academic affairs; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Pannell later transferred to Sul Ross State 
University Rio Grande College where she was chair of the Department 
of Education for a decade and held the posts of director of field 
experience and certification officer, bringing to those endeavors 
the commitment and professionalism that have been the hallmark of 
all her efforts; and
	WHEREAS, A highly respected voice in her field, Dr. Pannell 
has demonstrated outstanding leadership as secretary of the Texas 
Association of Teacher Educators and as president of the Texas 
Directors of Field Experiences; and
	WHEREAS, In addition to her achievements as an educator, this 
notable Texan has also devoted her time and energy to serving her 
fellow citizens in the communities of Alpine and Uvalde; and
	WHEREAS, Throughout the course of her career with the Sul 
Ross State University system, Dr. Pannell has demonstrated high 
professional standards and an unyielding dedication to the cause of 
education, and it is truly appropriate that her accomplishments in 
this regard receive special legislative recognition; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Dr. Mary Sue 
Pannell for her enduring contributions to Sul Ross State University 
and extend to her sincere best wishes as she begins this new chapter 
in her life; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Dr. Pannell as an expression of high regard by the 
Texas House of Representatives.
