R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ruben Gonzalez, a longtime resident of Edinburg, has
devoted his professional career toward the betterment of public
education in the State of Texas, and his exemplary work as an
educator and administrator has earned him the respect of peers,
students, and parents alike; and
WHEREAS, An alumnus of Edinburg High School, Mr. Gonzalez
pursued his collegiate studies at The University of Texas--Pan
American, where he earned a bachelor's degree in history, health,
and physical education, a master's degree, and mid-management
certification; over the course of his teaching career, he has
taught each of the subjects he studied as an undergraduate and has
brought to the classroom an abiding belief in the power of education
to enrich and transform the life of each and every student; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gonzalez is also an accomplished administrator
who previously served as assistant principal at North High School
and Memorial Middle School, where he later was appointed to serve as
principal; an avid supporter of his community's parental
involvement program, he has worked hard to ensure that students
receive the support they need from parents, teachers, and local
residents to excel in academics; in addition to his many
professional duties, he is well-known in his community for his work
with such notable organizations as St. Joseph's Church, the Boys
and Girls Club, and the Lorenzo De Zavala Leadership Training
Program; and
WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Pena has justly recognized
this exemplary South Texan by authoring this resolution in his
behalf during the 78th legislative session; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Ruben Gonzalez on
his many outstanding contributions to his community and profession
and extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
