R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On September 4, 2003, many area residents will join
together in celebrating the grand opening of the Houston Taiwan
Institute for Senior Citizens, an exemplary organization that is
the first of its kind in the Gulf Coast area Taiwanese community;
and
WHEREAS, This innovative learning program, which has existed
on an informal basis for many years, offers Houston seniors the
opportunity to study such subjects as history, art, language, and
the humanities; the institute is offering both a two-year and a
four-year track to those in attendance and will undoubtedly create
new social, academic, and professional opportunities for Texas
seniors of Taiwanese origin and descent; and
WHEREAS, The work of the Houston Taiwan Institute for Senior
Citizens is made possible by the support of many notable
benefactors, including the organization's host, the Grace Taiwan
Presbyterian Church; this generosity, which has allowed the
institute to offer classes at minimal cost to its students, has
demonstrated the pride and vitality of Houston's Taiwanese
community and is an inspiration to all those who recognize the value
of continuing education; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the official
grand opening of the Houston Taiwan Institute for Senior Citizens
and extend to its members and sponsors best wishes for a memorable
event; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for prominent display at the Houston Taiwan Institute for
Senior Citizens as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
of Representatives.
