R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of former Fort Bend County Judge James C. "Jim" Adolphus on July 27, 2003, at the age of 73, brought a great loss to the family and friends of this esteemed public servant, and the members of this chamber wish to honor his memory at this time; and WHEREAS, Born in Birmingham, Alabama, on October 10, 1929, Judge Adolphus was attending The University of Texas at Austin at the outbreak of the Korean Conflict and opted to enlist in the U.S. Air Force in a show of solidarity with his fellow Americans; and WHEREAS, This patriotic gentleman completed aviation cadet training and was commissioned shortly thereafter, thus beginning a 20-plus-year career as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and the Texas State Guard; and WHEREAS, On his return to Houston following a period of active duty, Judge Adolphus resumed his studies at the University of Houston; he later forged a successful career in the oil and gas business, working his way through the ranks and ultimately becoming an independent operator and investor; and WHEREAS, A longtime delegate to the Harris County and Fort Bend County Republican Party conventions, Judge Adolphus maintained an abiding interest in politics throughout his life; he served three terms as a city councilman in Missouri City and 13 years as Precinct 4 justice of the peace before being elected county judge in 1998; and WHEREAS, Judge Adolphus was active in several military organizations, including the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, the Military Order of the Stars and Bars, and the Sons of the American Revolution; in addition, he was a member of the Sugar Land Rotary Club and a 32nd degree Mason of the Richmond Masonic Lodge; and WHEREAS, Few individuals achieve as much in their lifetime as did Jim Adolphus, and although his loss is painful to the many individuals who knew and loved him, his spirit will live on through his legacy of success and his many good works and deeds; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Judge James C. "Jim" Adolphus and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family, and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Judge James C. "Jim" Adolphus.
