R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The untimely passing of the Dr. Darrel Rains of Cleburne on August 1, 2003, at the age of 57, has deeply saddened the family and many friends of this beloved pastor; and WHEREAS, A native of Oklahoma, he was the youngest of three children born to proud parents Ray and Mary Rains; as a young man Dr. Rains developed his talent as a creative writer and planned to pursue a journalism degree at Oklahoma University; and WHEREAS, Before accepting a full scholarship to the school, he received a call to the ministry and instead enrolled in Oklahoma Baptist University; Dr. Rains was also an alumnus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned a master of divinity degree and a doctorate in ministry; and WHEREAS, Dr. Rains began his ministerial career at Agnew Avenue Baptist Church in Oklahoma City and over the years served congregations in Albuquerque, Pampa, and Dallas; gifted at bringing people together, his guidance enabled church families to heal rifts and grow stronger in faith and friendship; and WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, this admired gentleman's experience, dedication, and wisdom made a lasting impact on the lives of many, and his legacy of spiritual leadership remains as a reminder of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of the Dr. Darrel Rains and extend sincere sympathy to his wife, Suzanne; to his son, Nathan Rains, and his wife, Betsy; to his daughter, Amy Wood, and her husband, Mark; to his grandchildren, Madison and Taylor Rains; to his father and stepmother, Ray and Ethel Rains; to his sister, Rae Ellen Heinzig, and her husband, James; and to the other relatives and many friends of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of the Dr. Darrel Rains.
