No. 114R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Pampa community has lost a beloved citizen with the passing of Dennis Cavalier on May 24, 2003, at the age of 58; and WHEREAS, Born on August 6, 1944, in DuBois, Pennsylvania, Mr. Cavalier graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, where he was an All-American football player; he later received his master's degree from Wichita State University and coached in Kansas for 13 years and in Chickasha, Oklahoma, for six years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Cavalier and his wife, the former Kathy Heitschmidt, whom he wed on July 5, 1969, in McPherson, Kansas, moved to Pampa in 1987, where he served as athletic director and head football coach of Pampa High School; over the course of 16 seasons, Coach Cavalier led the Harvesters to the playoffs nine times, including three trips to the regional round, once to the quarterfinals, and to the semifinals in 1996; and WHEREAS, Named coach of the decade by the Amarillo Globe-News in 1999, he compiled a 107-68-2 record at Pampa, winning his 100th game as a Harvester and his 200th career game during the 2002 season; he belonged to the Texas High School Coaching Association and was inducted into the Southwestern College Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, Mr. Cavalier played a positive role in the lives of many young men over the years, and his legacy will endure in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Dennis Cavalier and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Kathy; to his son, Andy Cavalier, and his wife, Wendy; to his son, Tony Cavalier; to his daughter, Katy Moone, and her husband, Brian; to his daughter, Abby Cavalier; to his mother, Norma Cavalier; to his two brothers, Richard and Tom Cavalier; to his grandson, Casen Cavalier; to his granddaughter, McKenna Cavalier; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dennis Cavalier.
