R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Santos Anastacia Gonzalez of Mercedes has been
selected Miss Teenage Texas 2003 and was named first runner-up at
the Miss Teen of the Nation contest held July 31 to August 3, 2003,
in Las Vegas, Nevada; and
WHEREAS, Competing at the state finals in Dallas on May 4 as
Miss Teen Rio Grande Valley, Ms. Gonzalez also received the Mary
Purvis Elegance Award for the Best in Evening Gown; as Miss Teenage
Texas, she won a prize package that included a $5,000 college
scholarship; and
WHEREAS, The 19-year-old beauty has also been selected as
Miss Texas American Teen 2003, Miss American Teen, first runner-up
2003, and BorderFest Queen 2003; and
WHEREAS, A dean's list student at The University of Texas at
Austin, this impressive young woman plans to mentor freshmen this
fall; she maintains a 4.0 grade point average in the liberal arts
honors program with majors in Mexican American studies and
government; professionally, she plans to study environmental law at
Harvard Law School and become a partner in her father's law firm,
while her ultimate personal goal is to become a great mother; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Gonzalez has shared her time and energy with a
number of worthy civic endeavors in Austin and her South Texas
community, including Alpha Xi Delta sorority, Big Brothers and Big
Sisters of America, antihunger efforts, and literacy programs,
particularly those assisting elementary students; and
WHEREAS, Santos Gonzalez has an outstanding record of
achievements as a student, volunteer, and pageant competitor, and
she is truly deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Santos
Anastacia Gonzalez on being named Miss Teenage Texas 2003 and first
runner-up in the Miss Teen of the Nation pageant, and extend to her
sincere best wishes for success and happiness in the coming years;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard from the
Texas House of Representatives.
