H.R. No. 123


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For 25 years, Dr. H. Edwin Young has served as pastor of Second Baptist Church in Houston, sharing his knowledge and experience with his fellow congregants and benefiting his community in countless ways; and WHEREAS, Born in Laurel, Mississippi, on August 11, 1936, Dr. Young attended the University of Alabama before enrolling in Mississippi College; he later continued his education at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina; and WHEREAS, This respected gentleman led churches in North Carolina and South Carolina before beginning his outstanding tenure with the Second Baptist Church in Houston; respected by congregants and peers alike, he has served as president of the Southern Baptist Convention and authored several books; and WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Dr. Young has enjoyed a strong and loving marriage with his wife of 44 years, Jo Beth; together they have been blessed with three sons and eight grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Dr. Young is a man of great faith and integrity, and his passion for teaching and preaching the Word continues to inspire those who are privileged to know this fine man; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor Dr. H. Edwin Young for his 25 years of service as pastor of Second Baptist Church in Houston and extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Young as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
