H.R. No. 124
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Longtime Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)
employee James G. "Jim" Freeman is retiring as district engineer of
the agency's Paris District after more than 30 years of dedicated
service with the department, and this occasion offers a fitting
opportunity to reflect on his outstanding career; and
WHEREAS, A Cross Plains native, Mr. Freeman began his
affiliation with TxDOT as a summer intern in 1967 while pursuing his
bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University;
after graduating in 1971, he was hired as a full-time engineering
assistant in the Childress District of Knox County; and
WHEREAS, Three years later, this dedicated professional took
a job in the district design office, and in 1976 he was named area
engineer for Childress and Hall counties; the next 11 years were a
time of increased responsibility for Mr. Freeman, as his purview
expanded to include six additional counties and he assumed the role
of district pavement manager; and
WHEREAS, In 1987 he was selected as the district construction
engineer for the Childress District and was charged with overseeing
the construction activities in three area offices and directing the
district's lab functions; he was promoted to director of
transportation planning and development for the district in 1993, a
post that required the full range of his myriad talents and skills;
and
WHEREAS, Since 1999 Mr. Freeman has held his current position
as district engineer for the Paris District, and during that time
the district received honorable mention in competition for the 2000
and 2002 Environmental Achievement Award and was named the
recipient of the 2001 Texas Quality Hot Mix Asphalt Pavement Award;
he has also found time to serve his community as president of the
local Lions Club and as a member of the Childress Regional Medical
Center's Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Jim Freeman has devoted himself to serving his
fellow citizens throughout the course of his remarkable career, and
it is indeed a privilege to recognize this exemplary public servant
and to congratulate him on his well-deserved retirement; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor James G. "Jim"
Freeman on the occasion of his retirement from the Texas Department
of Transportation and extend to him best wishes for many years of
happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Freeman as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
