R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to recognize October 2003 as Free Enterprise Month in the Lone Star State; and WHEREAS, Free enterprise is the freedom of private and publicly owned businesses to operate competitively for profit with minimal government regulation; this tenet provides the basis for the dynamic and prosperous economic system of capitalism, which allows small businesses and large corporations alike to flourish and serve as the backbone of American society; and WHEREAS, DECA, an association of marketing students, is helping to promote an increased interest and awareness in free enterprise among students across this state and nation; in the spirit of free enterprise, the organization holds annual competitions and awards merit-based scholarships to young people who show promise in the field of marketing; and WHEREAS, The promotion of free enterprise will prepare the leaders of tomorrow to assume a vital role in today's increasingly global marketplace, and DECA's efforts in this endeavor are truly commendable; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby recognize October 2003 as Free Enterprise Month in Texas and commend DECA for its support of student entrepreneurial initiatives.
